The cake's appearance was a conspiracy by Valve; it was put in to mislead us.
It is a black forest cake.
Black Forest.
BF.
Much like Best Friend.
I.e., your best friend the companion cube.
The companion cube has a heart on it.
A heart is a single shape comprised of two lobes attached together...much like the physical separation but functional uniformity of the Two Towers.
You burn the companion cube.
And the two towers burned too.
...On 9-11 they burned.
Valve released the game 3 years after 9-11.
Add 9, 11, and 3 and you get 23.
TWENTY THREE.
YOU ALL KNOW WHAT 23 MEANS.
